Hello Friends!
Its your boy back with another blog. Life has been good to me lately. My new project has been going well, the responsibility fits like a glove and the workload has died down a little so I can focus more on fitness, writing, and you all!
Today was the first two workout day I’ve had in a while. I had an early morning, went to work (crushed it) and came back pretty early around 4pm. The weather was absolutely beautiful today so I knew I was going to go for a run. I haven’t ran in a while and I was a little scared for my legs as the last time I ran I had a lot of leg pain. I ended by buying new shoes (the Nike Pegasus 40s) and they worked really well. There’s the beautiful lake behind my hotel that has a little path around it. The quaint lake, filled with ducks and geese, surrounded by hotels and apartments, was almost exactly a mile in circumference. I started off slow, with a nice jogging pace to warm up, before climbing up to around a 10 minute pace. The lake was so beautiful, the sun peaking out behind to the clouds to illuminate the area, the light bouncing playfully atop the ripples on the water. Gaggles of geese graze gracefully (they call me alliteration kshaun) near the edge of the water, a swan ducks its head below the surface to find kelp, an eagle flies overhead. You don’t find many moments like this when you’re on the road, so I took my time to enjoy the breeze and the view. I ended up running 3 miles at around an 11:30 pace. I stopped and walked here and there to catch my breath or take in the scenery, one of those “stop and smell the roses” experiences. After 35 minutes I finished my final lap around the lake, spent some time stretching and catching my breath, and walked back to my hotel. The new shoes have a lot less padding compared to the Hoka’s I was using before, but I like them better overall as I was able to get a lot more speed from them with no issues in my legs. Nevertheless, I was sore after the run, the longest run I’ve finished in over 2 months, so as I returned to the hotel room I finished up the day with some yoga.
Yoga, as always, is a fantastic use of my time. I finish the workout feeling flexible, connected, and focused. My legs, while still a little sore, felt much better after the second workout, and with a sense of accomplishment and a little bit of runners high, I sat down and spent the rest of the evening reading and watching tv.
I have to remind myself sometimes that progress is never truly linear. Some days I wake up with a sense of urgency, of purpose, the drive to complete my goals pushing me forward to no end. Other days all I want to do is sleep in and watch a movie. Others still I don’t have the strength to leave my apartment, fold the pile of laundry in the corner of my closet, or even make breakfast. The good days and the bad seem to come hand in hand, but lately I’ve been noticing the good days have been becoming more frequent, that the control I have over them is stronger, and the bad days are more manageable. And if that isn’t progress I don’t know what is.
